Ingredients

Bananas are picked green and ripen in storage. The bananas pictured here show the stages of ripeness. The darker the skin, the riper and sweeter the banana will be. To slow ripening keep your bananas in a cool dark spot. Bananas are not typically stored in the refrigerator because the cold temperature quickly turn the skin black. Once ripe, bananas can be frozen whole in their skins and used in baked muffins and banana bread.
Bananas are one of the few fruits that we cannot squeeze juice from; this means every bite is dense with calories, which is why I say to stick to one per day when trying to lose weight. Bananas are also a natural source of potassium and fiber but carry only small amounts of Vitamin C or iron.

Cooking Instructions

Bananas can be eaten whole right out of the peel but they are also delicious in fruit salad, baked goods, and fruit smoothies. Try the recipe for Blackened Banana under snacks - kids love it!
