Blueberries are fabulous; eat them whenever you can! These tiny fruits are packed with powerful antioxidants that promote good health. They are also a good source of Vitamin C and fiber. Look for berries that have deep blue color and a silvery blush; this “frost” is their natural protective color that should not be rinsed away until just before serving. Large berries are grown commercially and the smaller, more tender berries are grown wild and are usually available towards the end of summer or frozen all year round. Avoid soft, mushy berries.
Wash and pick over berries to remove any stems or leaves. Serve raw, mix in with cereals, or serve in baked goods as a dessert, such as a fruit tart or cobbler listed under the Dessert Catagory on this web page.
