Ingredients

Bartlett is the most popular pear and is delicious served at room temperature. They are a good source of fiber and Vitamins A and C as well as potassium. Buy organic. Look for firm fruit with smooth skin. Hard pears can ripen at room temperature—65–68 F. Choose those that already feel a little soft; this increases the chances that the fruit will ripen as desired. Don’t ripen in plastic; they are sensitive to the carbon dioxide that accumulates.

Cooking Instructions

Eat pears fresh or use to replace apples in a tart or as a baked or poached fruit.
