Makes 6 portions
Maple adds a pleasant sweetness and a sprinkle of cinnamon adds a little spice.
1/2 small onion minced about 1/3 cup
1 tbsp olive oil or canola oil
3 cups Brussels spouts about 1 1/2 pounds
1/4 cup water
1-2 Tbsp Maple Syrup
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 fresh lemon
salt and pepper
Remove wilted leaves from sprouts, trim stem. In a medium size skillet cook onion in oil until tender about three minutes. Add sprouts, and water, stir and cook on low heat, covered for 10 to 15 minutes or until tender. Cooking time will vary with the size of the Brussels sprouts. Once tender, remove cover drizzle with maple syrup add cinnamon, the juice from the fresh lemon and season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir and serve warm
