Grapefruit does not dissolve fat or make you lose weight all on its own. Nevertheless it is a really good fruit just like an orange or pomelo is. Grapefruit ripens in the tree so you want to buy it as fresh as possible. It is available all year and is cheapest in January through May when it is most plentiful. It comes in white or red flesh varieties. Grapefruit is a good Vitamin C source and fiber source.

Cooking Instructions:

Eat grapefruit raw sliced in half or peel it just as you would an orange. A fresh grapefruit can last one to two weeks in the refrigerator.
Use in fruit salad or add to a lettuce salad for a change of pace.
